Who is Metal Momma

Hello my lovelies!
I figured that the 1st post should be an introduction to myself and my little family.

Well this is me.
My names Mistie & I am the proud mom of a crazy 5 yr old.
I'm also engaged to the most amazing man.
Truly the love of my life.

My daughters name is Saraphina.
She's a vibrant silly girl.
She loves all things glitter, princess, super hero, & full of colors. She loves loves loves animals & fairies.

We are what is considered a secular homeschooling family.
The reason I chose to homeschool is for various reasons.

  1. I dont like what Im seeing and hearing out of public schools
  2. I love the freedom that homeschool affords me
  3. I want to be in total control of what my daughter is taught
  4. I want her to be able to go as fast or as slow as needed so she flourishes.
  5. I want to make sure she's cultured & exposed to as much of the arts as possible.
  6. I want to cater to her strengths and talents.

I have known I wanted to homeschool Saraphina since she was an infant. I started researching homeschooling while I was pregnant with her.

As far as what type of homeschooling or curriculum we use.
I actually go through what is called a charter homeschool.
Its considered a public school, but without the brick and mortar building. What this does for me is allows me the freedom to teach my daughter the way I wish, but with the cushion of a public school to help me make sure she is making her marks for what is required in my state.
We have a teacher adviser which monitors her progress, but also he gives her the state tests. We are also given a student fund for curriculum and learning tools.
Its a wonderful system that I am super happy with.
Curriculum wise in the charter school I have chosen from a list and we use Waterford and ABC mouse.
Outside of that I use a combination of my own lessons, workbooks and manipulative's.
I thought homeschooling was going to be an impossible feat. Because I hadnt been to school for it.
But I stuck to my guns and did it.
I get a lot of help from my mom, who was an early childhood teacher. That helps a lot.
I also do my own research and look up ways to teach my daughter the things I need to.
Another great tip for homeschooling is to stay on top of what your state requires. They will provide that information for you if you look online or call the school board.

Ok well I think that is all for now.
In the coming months I will be posting lots of resources.
I wanna try and help other homeschooling mommas find things they need.
Sometimes it seems daunting and impossible.
Welcome to my blog!
I hope you enjoy my postings!
